What you can expect

We confirm the debt and stage of enforcement, explain exactly what bailiffs can and cannot do (for most debts there’s no forced entry), and draft a realistic repayment proposal. We can request pauses (including vulnerability reviews or Breathing Space), and explore formal options that may stop enforcement completely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ready to take action? Check if you qualify for help ↓

1 What is a bailiff (enforcement agent)?
A bailiff, also called an enforcement agent, is authorised by the court or a creditor to collect unpaid debts such as council tax, parking fines, or court judgments.
2 Why have bailiffs contacted me?
Your creditor has passed an unpaid debt to enforcement. The letter or text should show who the creditor is and what the debt relates to.
3 Can bailiffs visit without notice?
No. They must send a Notice of Enforcement at least seven clear days before any visit.
4 Can bailiffs enter my home?
Only peacefully, through an unlocked door. They can’t force entry for most debts without a specific court order.
5 What should I do if bailiffs are at my door?
Keep doors locked, speak through the door, ask for ID and the reason for the visit, and contact 0161 527 7531 immediately.
6 What can bailiffs take?
Only non-essential, high-value items you own. They can’t take beds, cookers, clothes, or children’s belongings.
7 How can I stop bailiff action?
You can stop or pause enforcement by arranging a payment plan, a Debt Relief Order (DRO), an IVA or declaring bankruptcy.
8 Can I make a payment arrangement with bailiffs?
Yes, but it’s best to do it with help. We can negotiate fair, affordable terms and work to prevent further visits.
9 What if I can’t afford to pay bailiffs?
Get advice immediately. We can give you practical support and guidance.
10 Who can help me?
